How bad does lightning have to be to need to shut down your pc? i do have a surge protector though

If a bolt of lightning hits your PC directly I can guarantee it will break if that's what you're asking.

If a lightning storm is bad enough to make you wonder if you should turn your PC off, you should probably just turn your PC off.

ah ok was jw because the one thats going on right now is like 1 lightning every 5 minish or longer

A surge protector won't do a whole lot in a direct hit scenario. Neither will being off for that matter
