How do you overclock?

Overclocking gpus scale quite linearly, so I don't think you two are giving a big enough overclock. Example: A 40% overclock on the core would give about 40% better performance in game, so 60fps would go all the way up to 84fps. That's a little more than "a few fps."

who hits 40% overclocks on a gpu with air?! while i do pretty much agree, you just arent yanking that much out of a average gpu, average meaning even $300. overclock a 7950, get 12 fps, overclock a 680, gain 18, overclock a 560ti, get 7 lol

Well I'm pretty sure my laptop is air cooled :P. But in a more related context, AMD gpus are very good overclockers and it's not uncommon for 7000 series cards to achieve 50% overclocks. That translates into a ton of extra frames in game.
