Help building a home theater PC

#1CapwnDPosted 11/5/2012 12:57:25 AM(edited)
I want to make this thing silent. I'm replacing an eebox which was pretty much silent, but sucked at handling HD video.

Requirements are that it handles HD video, 7.1 surround (5.1 would be acceptable, this isn't my main rig) and 2 monitors. Does not need to do any gaming at all.

Suggestions? I'm not a hardware enthusiast so I need some help here please!

Any size requirements? Is a mid tower ok? Or do you want something smaller?

It's up to you to pick the HDD and Optical Drive.

Get a Projector and paint a wall if you can.

This.

A projector is one of the best (if not the best) home-theater investments you can make.

That's what I think, anyway.

I'm used to a little eebox that has virtually no sound so I'm just worried that some of these will be too distracting.

Have you looked into Raspberry Pi? I don't know much about it, but I know it supports HD video. You'd have to do more research on 7.1 and 2 monitors.
