What happened to that W8 being able to play X360 games?

It was a rumor. Most people figured out that out a while ago.

Ugh no. Xbox live arcade games are coming over somewhat due to the new ms games app but not playing actual 360 disks.

Was a silly rumor perpetuated by silly people with no idea how computers work.

It wasn't even a rumor. It was some guy on a random blog that was talking about a hypothetical Windows 8 that could play Xbox games. He was basically talking about his dream version of Windows. Various other blogs misunderstood what the guy was saying and started to state that Windows 8 would play Xbox 360 games. It later surfaced again when Microsoft said something about how Xbox Live would be integrated with Windows and some people somehow assumed that meant that Xbox 360 games could be played in Windows.

Operating systems alone don't push X360 games, they can't use it as a selling point unless they can only sell W8 units with the specs to run those games.

From that alone I'd assume we'll never see a computer that is sold with "the power to run X360" games unless you're buying it straight from the manufacturer.

It's coming right after we get support to play PS3 games.

Different architecture. MS can try their best to make the best official 360 emulator, but by the time our systems can handle it efficiently, the 360 will be dead, so it doesn't matter.

The only feasible way we'd see "360" games on our systems is if MS heavily pushes their GFW ports and looking at Halo 4, that's not happening. And no, GFWL is not the horrible monster everyone says it is. It's not that great either.
