I have a 120GB SSD on which my operating system windows7 is installed.

I'll be buying a 1TB or more HDD for cheap on Black Friday. It will be set as the destination for all downloads and I'll be storing media on it as well, but my question is can I install programs on the 2nd hard drive too if I wanted?

Sure, just specify destination during installation of program or games.
It's usually under "advanced" option in the installation.

Ah ok. Sounds good!

Yes, just make sure you change your install drive for your programs, even though it's recommended that you install all your programs on the SSD to streamline everything.

Well small programs that I use frequently such as firefox, skype, etc. no doubt i already have those installed on my SSD to benefit from the increased speed.

but i was thinking that for new games, considering most new games are at least going to be a few GBs big, i will install them on the HDD
