My friend upgraded his system and gave this card to me for free, is it pretty outdated or will it handle some good games

It is quite out dated but it's a little contender. You'll get medium or medium-high settings out of most games if you don't play on 1080p.

You can still run some modern games just not on high or ultra. I have a 6570 and its ranked very slightly higher then yours and I can run BF3 on medium no issues whatsoever and skyrim on ultra with about 30 fps. A lot of it depends on your resolution though i'm running at 1024x768 so its not HD.

"HD" starts at 1024x720, actually.
9800T will play most games out on passable settings.
AMD CACHING = NOT YET FINISHED

I had a 9800GT before my new build and it will play most games at 1024x768 at medium settings. Obviously no AA and no/low AF.
CPU: i5 2500k 3.4GHz, GPU: Radeon HD 7970, SSD: Crucial M4 512GB, HDD: WDCB 7200RPM 500GB, RAM: 16GB 1600MHz DDR3, PSU: Seasonic X750W
