It's me disagreeing with that person. Time Warner Cable is much worse than Comcast, in my personal experience.

Give me a good enough signature to use, and I'll replace this one.

I don't think anyone knows what they are talking about on this thread.

Even encrypting your torrent traffic won't stop what happened to TC. What it is, is a company gets hired to enforce the DMCA on behalf of the copyright holder. They connect to torrents that are infringing their copyright. When they connect, they grab a copy of all the IP addresses in the swarm and based on the net block they originate from they send a notice to your ISP with the relevant information. Your ISP then checks who had that IP leased at the time the notice indicates and then forwards you the notice.

All they need is your IP address. Encryption won't stop that from happening, what you need to do if you're worried is use a proxy/vpn when connecting to bittorrent, if you don't like that, then move to a Canada where we have sane laws.=P

What do you guys mean by "unsecured network"

Are you saying that if you put a password on your wifi you won't get caught torrenting?

Haha, no. All that does is stop your neighbors from using your wifi. If you have no idea what you are doing stop using torrents. Especially after getting a cease and desist in the mail. Kids...

I didn't get a cease and desist. If you knew what that was. That means it has to be legally sent you you with a court order and lawyer. I got a warning for a movie that I didn't download.
