Different kinds of lag... both of those could be lag. More often it's used for networky type things or input lag things but it can be used for both.

Whatever the debate it, it's stupid. :)

No, it hasn't. Lag has been used to refer to anything from network or input latency to framerate drops across nearly two decades.

Here, even Nvidia has an article on it, written by the creator of tweakguides

Simply isn't true. No one in the 90's PC scene used "lag" to describe poor framerates. It's a relatively new trend born of the rampant ignorance that followed the gamer influx of the PS2 era.

Your 1 year old article proves nothing, other than that use of the word "lag" to describe poor framerates has become widespread. And while it may not be technically incorrect, it is still confusing and reflects poorly on the speakers intelligence, much like use of the word "irregardless."

It's both, anybody who says otherwise is just trying to be smarter than they are.

That "network latency" is often the cause of lag (frame drops or pauses in action) in online games. The word "latency" is just the time it takes from A to B. It's not even an explanation as to whether it's slow or not. Lag has never exclusively meant a low latency speed in an online game, even back when I played Quake on my dial-up.

There needs an option for Both. Given the absence of such an option it's clear everyone will vote for the first option.
