Every time I read about it or watch a trailer I'm like "DAYUM! Do want!" but I end up getting overwhelmed by the amount of content, forget the main plot line, then feel compelled to start over.

Is there a spoiler free wiki or something online? It'd be nice to be like "who the hell are the X again?" And be able up look up X without seeing "X kills shepherd with a candlestick in the ballroom".

There is a mass effect wiki (google it, it's easy to find), although I wouldnt consider it spoiler free since it offers walkthroughs. It might also have spoilers on the individual pages.

Looking at Miranda's page, for instance, you have a bit of background information and the game play specific stuff is down below.

I'm confused.
Have you never played the game or have you just never finished the game?

Never finished. I've played about 5 hours of it 2 or 3 times (starting over each time because I forget what's going on). I'm really anal about recalling all of the details.

Start writing some things down in a notebook as you play maybe?

Honestly, don't bother with sidequests if your talking about ME1. I didn't like the game much at first. I almost got rid of it and ended up trying again. I didn't bother with achievements or anything and enjoyed the story and did some sidequests also. Ended up doing 3 more runthroughs completing all sidequests with static party members for the achievements on 360.

Says more about ME1 than my really forced playthrough of ME2 and getting bored toward the end of ME3.

Just keep playing and don't worry about it, especially the Codex. You'll get the hang of species interaction, and who all the important people are.

This raises another issue. I love not missing anything, and since ME has quests that cannot be completed after a certain time, I feel like I should do all of the side quests in an area before advancing the main plot.
