Make sure you don't install the Complete mods.

Why? I thought CoP Complete was good

complete mods are good mods, mostly if you want a more streamlined experience.. but watch out for elitists on this board who say it's crap because it's not hardcore enough, or hipsters who say it's crap because it's popular

that being said there are many other good mods for the stalker series as well and some add some more realistic and difficult elements to the game which go very well with the whole survival aspect/goal

Well CoP doesn't really need Complete as it's not as buggy as the previous STALKER games.

The new textures might be nice, but I noticed that they may kill the performance for some (FPS dropped and the game was stuttering like crazy for me).

Complete also does some hidden things which aren't mentioned.

Complete really is easy though. I'm using it for Clear Sky and you just roflstomp everything.

It's good for a first playthrough, but if you try other mods later, then you'll probably notice that you'll have a harder time surviving in the zone.

There's a immense hate on Clear Sky, it's a great game, and you'll miss out a lot on the Stalker series. Just get all of them.

Those changes aren't hidden, people just don't know how to read or research their mods. I'm still baffled that people get surprised when they find out Complete doesn't just improve graphics. WELL DUH LOOK AT THE README FILE.

I'm in the minority but my favorite was Clear Sky

I liked seeing the zone before the events of SHOC and I liked how the stories linked. I loved the faction battles and the territory control stuff even tho they would sometimes whine CONSTANTLY about needing help... I learned to ignore what I couldn't help.

The game was actually stable for me and I didn't experience nearly as many bugs as others. I also think it looks better than Call of Pripyat (not counting mods)

If you loved the faction battles, then check out this cool mod:
