What do you guys think about Minecraft?

Great game, although the devs are kind of dumb and the game is heavily dependant upon modding. I prefer Terraria mainly, just because the game is "better" and combat isn't awful, and there aren't much flawed mechanics (see - Minecraft's EXP / enchant system where you can take a long time to get level 30 and then you get a crappy random chance to get something good).

I really enjoy the horse update and it's cool how many facets there are in the game, like horse breeding, farming, exploring etc. It's a great game really. The graphics aren't bad at all with mods, see - http://i.imgur.com/KpmjJ.jpg

Pretty crappy the greedy devs have never lowered the price or put it on sale though. Also, the API they're promised. Basically the devs are horrible but it's a great game.

I always play on servers where there's a kind of seperate but communal experience and players interact with each other in different ways, like being jerks and declaring war on each other or trading and helping each other out, which is really cool. I don't think there's anything else like that.

I knew about minecraft when it was still a buy the alpha version on the website and I didn't get it. When it became a cool new indie game to play I didn't get it. When it became a moderate success I didn't get it. When it became a huge success I didn't get it. When it got ported to ever platform and became a monster success I didn't get it. So yea, that's how I feel about it.

I never understood the appeal. The graphics are ugly and the gameplay seems like work.

It can be very awesome if you can find someone to play, unfortunately for moi, the players always disperse within the span of three days, and this is not restricted only to Minecraft, making it all even worse.

Ultima: About the game never going on "sale," the deal was that Notch would give a special price to anybody who bought during Alpha and then a slightly less-special price to people who bought during Beta and then a standard price for people who bought after "release." If he had a bunch of sales immediately following "release" it would kind of be a slap in the face of the people who bought it during Alpha/Beta and basically funded the continued work on the game.

When you wrote that the devs are kind of dumb I did find myself agreeing, though, even if it was for a different reason. They keep adding so little new features to Minecraft and fixing critical errors but it seems so rare for them to actually address long-standing bugs, like the way Nether Portals are seriously screwed up unless you know how to take advantage of the system. If you create one, walk through it, then exit through it again, the system will probably spontaneously create a new nether portal somewhere in your original world that cuts into existing structures instead of just exiting you through YOUR portal that you used in the first place. It could even destroy rare blocks. Potentially very annoying if you don't get it fixed early on in your structure-building. This bug has existed since the very first Nether release, which was years ago. When I was most recently playing on a server with some friends who are new to Minecraft I remember commenting frequently about long-standing Minecraft bugs like that one, and it's kind of shameful to me that some of them were never fixed.

When mods can let me set up automated mining facilities to carve out the literal entire underside of a mountian, build nuclear reactors and particle accelerators in my basement, and go on a crazed rampage with missiles and portable wormholes....And all without even leaving the same modpack. Yeah, it's worth it.

What modpack is this? I lost interest in Minecraft for a while but if I can make all of those things with a single modpack I would definitely get back into it.

if i want to play with lego, i'll play with my lego.

Minecraft is cheaper and has no limitations.

If you think Lego has limitation you're doing it wrong. As for more expensive, sure it probably was for my mum when she bought it all for me over 15 years.

Only really fun on MP, takes way too much effort to share a SP world with friends so theres not much point in it

I dunno... I'd say this looks exactly like an NES game:

I mean, can you even tell those two pictures apart?

Even if I throw in a texture pack picture, we're looking at SNES quality at best:

Again, it's like looking at two pictures which could have been taken from the same game.

Eh, no.
