Improve my build topic (anyone can post theirs)

#1LootmanPosted 8/1/2013 12:54:15 AM
I guess people can post their build and we might get improvements to their PCs in replies, I made this just for myself but if we can get a small community of people improving other people's PCs that would be cool.

I've posted mine before, but it's a (really dang small) budget PC made to play some games.

Processor: AMD A10-6800K 4.1GHz Quad-Core Processor
Memory: Crucial Ballistix 4GB (1 x 4GB) DDR3-1866
Hard Disk Drive: 500GB - 7200 RPM
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-F2A85X-D3H ATX FM2
Optical Drive: Lite-On 24x CD/DVD Burner
Case: NZXT Source 210 Elite (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply Unit: 450W
Operating System Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)

This totals to ~470 ($712 according to Google).
(Also planning on putting a graphics card in when possible)
Can anyone improve it whilst not increasing the price?

I've swapped the RAM for:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CMZ4GX3M1A1600C9-1600MHz-Vengeance-Memory/dp/B004CRSM48/

Because apparently the RAM I listed isn't even sold here.

You might have to switch some parts out since I'm using US sites, but for $700 you can definitely build a system similar to this one for $700
I would only suggest getting an APU for builds under $400.

Get a cheaper motherboard. Don't spend extra for features that you won't use. For a budget build, one of the A75 (or even A55) boards will do just fine.

Use the savings to buy another 4GB stick of RAM.

It's about $30 more than your build but it is really nice:

I just built basically that computer and the performance I'm getting from that price is ridiculous.

That links to a blank list without any parts.

I don't know how well it transfers overseas but for $800 you can get a 4570/760 build, the 760 is $250 or so depending on the model so dropping it for time being would put you at around $550. The HD4600 is 70-90% as (graphically) powerful as the 6800k depending on the game while being literally twice as fast on the CPU side of things. Provided the prices transfer well you could also bump that up to a 4670k and z77 board and still be comfortably under $700 since you're planning to add a gpu later.

If you're getting a new OS, you might as well go for Windows 8.
