If you have 8GB or less RAM, you might want to consider upgrading soon.

Surprisingly it looks like games will use over 4GB memory sooner than you think. Recent reports have said that there are games in development for PS4 that are already hitting 6GB use in memory. After a huge delay in graphics improvement because of 360/PS3, developers are finally upping the scale of their level designs and probably higher texture/shadow resolutions that will take up more memory. After reading this news, I dug up some PC spec requirements for upcoming games and found out that it's indeed a reality now.

Games like Lost Planet 3 and Dying Light recommend 8GB memory to max out their settings. BF4 and Titanfall rumored to be 8GB as well.

An article about Titanfall even said that the developers are having trouble managing with Xbox One's 5GB ram... lol

Then there are games like Watch Dogs that are rumored to use 6GB.

So yep, get ready. I'm glad I went with 16GB on my last upgrade, I'm good to go for these new games.

Good thing ram is one of the easiest things to upgrade. I plan to wait until games actually recommend more.

Meh... would not likely read again. Not enough mentions of consoles, and several other possible points missed.

Um, I don't think they were complaining about the lack of ram in the article.
More like "we have more than enough ram that we can't figure out what to do with them".

I would be extremely shocked if this were true, since most reports put the ps3 system use at 3.5g, leaving only 5.5 dedicated to the game.

The time is coming eventually, but I don't think the new consoles are going to jump start it.

Read the next lines. He says the game heavily relies on Xbox One's cloud service to offload the memory use and it wouldn't be possible to develop without its cloud service. So in comparison, PC gaming has no cloud service so it will affect the memory requirement.

Still, how are they going to deal with the high latency of the cloud memory? What are they offloading to it?

Here's an article that said 6GB being used in PS4 games - http://gematsu.com/2013/07/rumor-update-ps4-5gb-ram-games
Some individual developers also commented that they're using 4GB or more already.

... and just check the Steam page for new games, here's 8GB listed for Lost Planet 3 -
