This is a split board - You can return to the Split List for other boards.

If you have 8GB or less RAM, you might want to consider upgrading soon.

Yeah, but we have RAM + VRAM. If PS4 version use 6GB, then I am using like 3GB VRAM + 3GB board RAM

^ That man makes a very good point.

That's what I was going to post after reading the OP. Counting VRAM I have 12 gigs in my system.

Also... With this cloud based stuff... Is downloading more ram actually coming true? I don't see how cloud computing is supposed to help with ram issues. With CPU or GPU issues maybe, but I just don't see most people having a net connection fast enough to make it worth bothering with, especially from a RAM standpoint.

PS4's OS supposedly uses over 3GB of RAM by itself. No way a PS4 game will use 6GB by itself.

.. so I'm reassuring my $30 (ram price) out of a $1000 build? Yeah, ok... >_>

I didn't get 16GB for gaming in the first place, it was for multi-tasking (and idling).

People are forgetting that if a ps4 game is using a total of 4gb or RAM, it's heavily optimized and still using that much. The pc version will end up needing a lot more.

If a console game today uses, what, 256mb of total RAM now? While the PC version of that same game might be using 3GB of RAM for example (2gb of RAM and 1gb of VRAM). So with the ps4 if the console version is using a total of 4gb of RAM, then the pc version will use.......10gb total? 12gb total? Who knows, but you know over time that number will continue to keep going up. I wouldn't be surprised if two years from now a gaming pc will need 16gb of RAM and a gpu with 4gb of VRAM for 1080p gaming.

Not really. For a start, the PS3 has 512MB of RAM (256 RAM + 256MB VRAM), the 360 has 512MB RAM and some kind of small smart cache for the VRAM I think.

Also, the current consoles run the same textures as the PC on LOWEST. With PC running equivalent settings as console, it use a lot less memory. But if the PC has more memory, it is sensible to use it, rather than be streaming from disk all the time more, like the consoles will be.

No way 8gb being replaced atm. We still have another 3-4 years before moving on to 16gb ram. Its only been since 2010 that 8gb became the standard for pc, 16gb wont be for another 3years minimum.

And if a developer is using 4gigs on ps4, that still goes with what I said (up to 5.5).

That hoax was proven wrong a week ago.

The PS4 does NOT use 3.5 GB for it's OS. It just doesn't. Why are people still trying to push this ?

I upgraded to 8GB pretty much when I started hitting the boundaries of 4GB. Of course, I could have avoided it. It was like, having a browser with tabs open, listening to music, playing BF3 and having steam and a number of other things running as well. However, this is kind of typical behavior for me, and I did not want to change the way I use the PC just because I was "running out of RAM".

I think I am fairly extreme already. I wonder why people go 16GB and beyond. Seems kind of pointless unless you have some specific reason for having it like video-editing etc.
