Is Civ V easy to get into?

I recently played Shogun 2. Holy hell that game was pretty complicating. Steep learning curve. Seems like its one of those games that become 'fun' after you really figure out how everything works..until then its just complicating.

I want to try the Civilization series next and figured i might as well start with the latest.

Is it easy to get into or is it just another Shogun 2?

Also, are the expansions worth it?

I didn't like Civ V much, but you might... OR you might like Civ IV better. It's turn based so you have plenty of time to figure stuff out, and you can play at the low levels with few opponents until you get the hang of things...when it DOES get addictive for you though, you'll probably find yourself playing 10+ hours in a sitting...

Yeah..It's a time waster for sure.
Easy enough to learn.

Civ 5 is pretty easy to get into. Just be warned, you boot up the game, look at the clock, and oh crap, it's 5 hours later.

If you play on the easier settings, then you can pretty much just ignore a lot of what's going on and do whatever you want. It's not always so simple, but it's true enough.

But if you want to pay attention to every detail and really make the most of it, then your'e going to need to spend some time reading up on the ingame Civilopedia as you go along.

I'd say so. It's not overly complex and by being turn based you can take your time learning the ropes.

It shouldn't be too hard. Civ V is the most simplified/dumbed down of the series.

I've never played Civ at all til part 5. Yeah it's pretty easy to get into. Fun? That's your call. Really boring for me. Takes 100's of turns to do anything. Like, hours.

It is pretty easy. I bought it a couple weeks ago and started it up then played it for about 15 hours straight...lol. Anyway, I was hooked there for that stretch, but I have no real desire to play anymore. I went through the tech tree, saw a science victory, a military victory, and made a pretty good civilization. It took sooooo long though so I don't see myself playing it again. I can find better games to spend time playing.

Civs are one of those games that you don't think you're spending time playing until you hear birds chirping and the sun shining through the window... and you're confused because it should still be around 11pm.
