I really liked shooters from 1998 to 2006, then they went downhill.

Ahhh UT2k4 oh how I miss you. I played the ever loving s*** out of that game back in the day. Everyone was obsessed with halo 2 back then but this game b**** slapped that watered down turd flat.

I just remember all the awesome custom levels people were creating. I remember the one where you were in a giant kids bedroom with ABC blocks and stuff but it was super sized so your characters and vehicles were like toys and action figures ;p You could go outside through the open window or creep down the mouse hole in the wall. Always thought that was such a creative map.

Sadly while the MP scene is still somehow alive for that game it's absolutely over run with aim bots and hackers making it next to impossible to enjoy anymore.

Borderlands 1 and 2 are pretty fun shooters. Though i'm into them since it's loot based rpg but in FPS flavor.

The golden age started on the N64 with Golden Eye and Perfect Dark. They took FPSers to a whole new level.

My first taste of fps was Doom. Played only a bit but had fun. First and only fps console game ive ever tried was golden eye and perfect dark. After that cod mw1 and cod: world at war. Everything else went downhill.

Most fps games besides bf series is so generic these days, almost as if they are just copying each others scripts.

Perfect Dark was the best game of my childhood. After that, Tribes.

Well, I play FPSs since Catacomb Abyss was released. At the time, my PC was so bad that Catacomb Abyss and Wolfenstein 3D where the only games I could run well.

Soon, Doom was released, but my PC couldn't run it well, so I decided to put it aside and play Blake Stone (with ceiling and floor textures disabled! :p) instead.

From that time on, I always play most FPSs that got released on PCs. Not consoles, since I can't aim on analog sticks... I don't think these games went downhill. There's just soo many of them that we get tired of the same thing again and again.

Nice to see some UT2004 love here. I spent ages playing that game, even played with a clan for a while. Sadly I wasn't the best. The only mode I was decent at was Instagib CTF.
Invasion mode with RPG mutator was a blast. I remember becoming the 3rd highest level player on one server. I was literally god on that server.

Good times...

This has been another (probably) uselessly informative post, by me. Booyah!

how can you not mention rainbow six?

I like them all. From Wolfenstein 3D and System Shock 2 to Battlefield 3 and Arma 3.

The first FPS I remember playing was Medal of Honor: Rising Sun, which I loved. Since then I've played many new and old first-person shooters and I've probably liked almost all of them (it's hard to make a first-person shooter not have any amount of fun to be had, IMO).

Also, you left out quite a few popular classics (or maybe you didn't like them?).

I never played perfect dark because I sold the n64 mid way. Howeever I did play the crap out of 007. That game was soooooo good. I beat single player on harder difficulties. 4 player split screen was hours of fun with friends.

1 year off. 1997 with Quake 2 is when it started, at least with serious online shooting. December of 97 so i guess you get a pass.

Nothing primitive about quake 2.. Mods and custom maps the only downside was that MSN client.
