Yes. Play them in reverse order, so that you can have no idea what's going on and who these characters are and why Max is depressed.

You can play Deus Ex & Human Revolution in reverse order and still understand what's going on. It might even make it more mysterious and suspenseful... :S

that's because DX:HR is a prequel where as the MP series doesn't have one.

Even in situations like Deus Ex you should still always play games in order. There usually isn't an complicated secret to the order of games.
