I have 4 GB, and I doubt upgrading it will have any significant impact on my computer's performance.

I use 8 stick of 4GB. I paid less than 150 for them last at launch of the X79.

8Gb which when I bought the machine five/six years ago (Pre-built - My old machine crapped out on me, and this one was mostly good specs at a reasonable price) was massively over the top. These days, not so much, but it does help compensate for what is now an aging system.
