Multi Monitor Setup help

#1kocrachonPosted 8/5/2013 8:01:45 PM
So right now I currently run a 2 monitor setup via my Nvidia GTX 570, and I want to add a third monitor. My current mobo does not have onboard video. What kind of video card can I add to get a third monitor setup? Do i NEED to SLI, or will another GPU work fine? And some one told me windows 7 allows the use of multi branded cards. I have an old ATI card in my old PC. Would I be able to take it out of there and use it, or do they need to be similar to an extent just to enable a third monitor?

Its not for gaming, its for other uses, so I don't need a performance use.

Pretty sure for SLi it MUST be the same card, so why not get a 2nd 570 and boost your performance considerably?

Especially if you want to game on all 3 monitors.

Pretty sure you can put in any other video card if it's just to run another monitor for your desktop. I don't think it will work for a game though. I don't know someone smarter answer this lol.

I'm not trying to SLI, I am trying to simply add a 3rd monitor for work purposes. I know if I had an onboard I can use the onboard card for a 3rd monitor, but I don't. So I am wondering if I can just add another random GPU in to enable a 3rd monitor.

And as I stated, it is not for gaming purposes.

Well either my ATI video card is dead (its an old as X1600 model, just wanted it for the extra monitor)

Question is now, what kind video card would i need to run a 3rd monitor? Do I NEED to have SLI to run a 3rd monitor, or can I just get an older/cheaper nvidia to run the 3rd monitor?

You do not need SLI for a third monitor.
