I purchased World in Conflict today on Steam. Problem is, whenever I try to run the game I get a message saying " Failed to start game (app already running)". I asked a buddy what to do and all he could suggest was verifying the game files. I did that and it said there were 6 files that needed to be reacquired. After downloading an additional 2GB of crap I'm still getting the same message when trying to run the game.

Can somebody please help? This is extremely frustrating.

ctrl + shift + esc
Go to "processes" tab
Search for the World in Conflict .exe
Right click, select end process

No such process there. Anything else?

Did that. Actually, I haven't done that since reacquiring those six files. Be right back.

Well, restarting after reacquiring didn't fix it so I may as well try this. So even if this does work, I had to download World in Conflict at 7.3GB, then download an additional 2GB when reacquiring some files, and now do it all again. WTF Steam?

I'll update after I've re-downloaded the game. Hopefully with good news.

bump. Still getting the same message "Failed to start game (app already running)." I've verified the cache (twice), I've re-downloaded the game in its entirety, I've restarted my computer after each attempt to fix this and I'm still not able to play the game.

Does anyone have any other suggestions before I try and contact customer support about this?

Maybe try running it as admin, or make sure its not running in a compatibility mode or something?

Do you mean running Steam as admin?
