N64 Emulator

#1Inferno700Posted 8/6/2013 7:40:18 PM
To start I have the system sitting in a box by my tv.

I have find memories of playing my 64 but sold it to get an xbox years ago. I have acquired another N64 from my brother but I don't think it works. Either it's busted or its not compatible with the 3 tv's I have connected it to (1 is maybe 6 years old that SNES works on). I'm thinking it's the former. I would like to play specifically Mario Kart but as I said I can't get it to play my games.

So my question:
Is there an emulator that can play N64 games? Also is there a bios or anything I would need to transfer from my system as with PlayStations to make it work?

Not sure how gamefaqs feels about posting links to emulators but you can google it and it will come up in the first results. As for a bios no it doesn't need anything special.

Project 64 and it doesn't use Nintendo's bios so it's not needed.

Roms however aren't necessarily legal to download but IMO it's fine because games aren't being manufactured anymore and the ones people are selling; ask for a ridiculous amount of money especially if the game was good.

Aah. Didn't think of GameFaqs not liking links but I can see that. I'm hoping for one that is reputable so I am a bit worried to just do a Google search.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was under the assumption it is legal if I item the game. I will have to look into this again. Also I wouldn't think the publishers would care being the revenue from these sellers you mention will never reach them.

Downloading a ROM is illegal even if you own the game. It is legal however to make a copy of your own games on your computer, but you'd have to connect the N64 cartridge to your computer to do that.

N64 was great for a while but it suffered from the same Nintendo hardware problems after it. Lack of third party support. I traded it in for a ps1.

Truth is, even if you do download a ROM of a game on a older system from whatever sites you find, the most you're going to get (if anything even happens at all) is a cease and desist notice. The companies aren't really profiting anymore, so they have no real reason to take legal action.

So no, it's not legal. Are you going to find yourself getting in trouble? No, there's probably like a 99.9% chance you won't.

They may not be manufactured anymore, but a lot of N64 games are still being sold legally. So no, it is not fine.

Not fine to discuss on here that is >_>
