Project 64 and it doesn't use Nintendo's bios so it's not needed.

Roms however aren't necessarily legal to download but IMO it's fine because games aren't being manufactured anymore and the ones people are selling; ask for a ridiculous amount of money especially if the game was good.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was under the assumption it is legal if I item the game. I will have to look into this again. Also I wouldn't think the publishers would care being the revenue from these sellers you mention will never reach them.

Downloading a ROM is illegal even if you own the game. It is legal however to make a copy of your own games on your computer, but you'd have to connect the N64 cartridge to your computer to do that.

This is true. It should also be noted that many older games, while not manufactured anymore, are sold in new formats like for Nintendo's Virtual Console, or as remakes like Ocarina of Time on the 3DS. So the publishers might care, but that said the chance of facing any legal consequences is negligible at best.

They may not be manufactured anymore, but a lot of N64 games are still being sold legally. So no, it is not fine.

Not fine to discuss on here that is >_>

Like I said they ask for a ridiculous amount of money for them ie. Earthbound US which goes for $100+ on ebay. This is also used game sales; people are profiting from it; not Nintendo or Creatures.

You also have to think about saves; not every cart you buy will be able to save.

Well Nintendo still sells a bunch of N64 ports on the Wii, so they are still profiting from them.

This doesn't cover the whole library though, just the hits really.

I actually have Mario Kart on my Wii U but lack any racing games in my pc so that is 1 reason I want to use an emulator since the original won't work. Another game I really want to play is Blast Corps which I doubt will ever be on Nintendo's VC or EShop.

Have you tried Sonic and Allstars Racing Transformed? That's an extremely good cart racer, better than Mario Kart IMO.

But I personally don't see anything morally wrong about downloading games that you can't get retail anymore, or getting games you already owned on a platform they would never be ported to. Might not be legal, but neither is jaywalking, so **** it.

I do have Sonic and Allstars Racing Transformed on Wii U but really my daughter wants to play that all the time so I have to say I am a little burned out. I also try to avoid purchasing multiple copies of the same game to get more bang for my buck you could say although I have done it a few times.

With the N64 games it's probably pure nostalgia but those are great games I miss playing.

I play Mario Kart 64 regularly on Project64 (have it on N64 but all my joysticks are broken, d'uh) and it works like a charm. Only one race does not work properly, and it runs super fast, which is merely funny.

Despite general 64 emulation being dodgy and some games are absolutely terrible to emulate, some do work great and Mario Kart is one of them.

Its also hands down the best Mario Kart. God, the ones after are bloody terrible. But that one, I can play every few weeks with at least one friend and I never get bored of it.

I use Project64 to play Pokemon Stadium with one of those gameboy expansion bays emulated and running a Pokemon Red save file and everything mapped to my 360 controller. It was surprisingly easy to set up, too. That's what I'd go with.

I've also played Mario Kart on it, once again with very simple game pad recognition and custom mapping.
