It doesn't need a 3.0 slot. It will work exactly the same through pci-e 2.0, as it's backward compatible. You don't need to change your board, so just get your new card and put it in there

The card is backwardly compatible with PCIe 2.0 motherboards, though, and it'll make naff all difference to performance. How much more reassurance do you require?

It works as people have said. PCIe BUS speeds have a touch of the epeen about them in that they've been getting new standards to sell new hardware but can't really use all the extra bandwidth - so no discernible performance loss using an older BUS.

No, it does not. It states that it is PCIe 3.0. But, PCIe is backwards compatible. So a PCIe 3.0 card will work in a 2.0 slot.
