IPS Monitors help? Need glossy (no anti-glare coat)

#1StrategyWikipedPosted 8/7/2013 9:30:23 AM
From this previous recent topic http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/916373-pc/66894630 it would seem that something like Dell S2340M would be the best for me, though I'm willing to know of other options, pricier or what not. It's for gaming mostly.

Budget is around $300 as well probably, though feel free to have it cost less or more. Wish there was an IPS Panel (Monitor?) tier list.

Should be a good monitor. I have the S2440 and it's amazing, though not an IPS display. The S2340 is having a good deal at BestBuy right now.

I have the Dell S2340M, great monitor.

Has deep blacks, no noticeable input lag (even at 7ms GTG), and looks sharp with near non-existent bezel.

Hell, at 179.00, get two of em.

I see they're 159 at Amazon and Best Buy right now. Even better.

Coming from someone who has both the dell U2312HM and the Dell S2340M I highly recommend the S2340M. The Dell U2312Hm has bad anti glare coating terrible black levels and bad screen glow. Have no idea why so many people still recommend that monitor whenever talking about a dell monitor to buy.

Unfortunately the screen on the S2340M is more reflective than I first thought it to be but it' worth it. Doesn't have the annoying ag coating and black levels are good enough for it not to affect the picture that much. It was impossible for me to enjoy watching a movie full screen on the U2312HM because of how bad black levels are and the screen glow on that monitor in dark scenes. When i played real dark games like silent hill, splinter cell, amnesia the screen glow was awful and makes those type of dark games unplayable.

The S2340M still has the ips screen glow but it's not as bad as the U2312HM but is still annoying. The reflective screen is certainly annoying during the day if you can't block light going to the screen though on the S2340M. I'm very picky about monitors now and only paid $140 for the S2340M.

Well worth it compared to a dell U2312HM which is always $200 and inferior in every way to the S2340M at night and if you can avoid light going to the screen during the day but not sure how to do that???

If the screen wasn't as reflective as it is and didn't have any screen glow I would pay $400 or more for this monitor. From what I have read though every single ips monitor will have screen glow so there is no solution. End of rant.

Ordered it a couple of days ago. My current monitor is 1920x1200, so this will be a little weird on 1920x1080 at first, maybe. Fortunately, everything else about it is amazing, so I'll be happy about that.
