I wanna buy a wide screen monitor (thinking 26") for my laptop when I'm at home.

I dont need to extend but mainly just mirror or use the monitor as the main screen when its hooked up.
However, laptop resolution screen only goes up to 1366x768, if I get a monitor that has more resolution will I be capped at 1366x768 or can I use the monitor's full resolution if I'm not extending the screen with my laptop?

umm you can extent the screen and use a even higher resolution, but since you have a laptop it will probably struggle to keep the same settings your used to.

You can make the external monitor the primary display.

with the full monitor resolution and not capped by my laptop right?

any suggestions on a 26" display (assuming we measure diagonally on computer monitors right?)?

If you're gonna go 1440p, make sure you're laptop hardware can support it. Most machines should be able to handle 1080p no problem, though.

What specs should I be looking for?

I don't want to extend it because it might slow down my processes? plus i think I dont need any more screen than just a 26"
