Are Alienware Laptops good?

#1xxgamer91xxPosted 8/14/2013 3:39:32 PM
I'm looking into getting a new laptop and I was looking at the Alienware 14 because I want something that I can use to play games and be able to use it for my video production classes. Would this be a good computer to get or is there something cheaper?

They're nice laptops. You might be able to get something similar for cheaper from something like Sager or MSI, but you won't get the same customer service. Just keep in mind they don't have great battery life.

If you need a laptop with that kind of juice and are willing to pay a premium then get a Macbook Pro.

ADD, no. Where is the thread for Fallout OCD players?

I have the base model M14x R2 and I really like it. I wouldn't even think about getting one of their desktops, though.

...what? I recommend Macs when appropriate but that made no sense. The Alienware M14x comes with a quad-core Haswell CPU and a GTX 750M or 760M for a fraction of what a top of the line Mac would cost, and the Mac would still not be as powerful.

How is the performance? Isn't the M14x R2 now just called the 14?

No, bad TC. I honestly wouldn't get a laptop that's not on sale. It's back to school time and there are tons of deals on laptops right now. Check local Fry's ads if you have one near you. I got my Asus N53SV 15.6" laptop for $400 of on sale at Fry's ($800 total) two and a half years ago and it was amazing for its time.

I've got the new Alienware 14 and I love it. I have it customized with the 765m, 16 gigs of ram, the 750 gb hard drive + 64 gb ssd cache drive, and the 1920x1080 screen. It runs and performs fantastic! Total it would have cost over $1700 with shipping and tax and such, but I got on the customer service thing and told the lady I was a college student, and the total ended up being $1450, tax and shipping included! It just depends on if you get a nice one, but the lady I got originally offered $50 off and a 2 year warranty, but I talked her down. It's worth a shot!
