Got this laptop as a gift. Is it any good for gaming?

You should be fine with some games at medium settings @ 720p. Might have to drop a few settings depending on the game. It should still look better than current consoles games.

Get some demos off steam, like Batman AC, to see how well it runs games with some "oomph" before buying all the latest titles.

Spend a buck on the humble bundle and pick up some decent titles that should run "ok"

Let's put it like this. Games like Batman: AA, and other Unreal games built for use on the PS3/360 will probably be fine. Mass Effect 1 & 2 are also probably something you could run, for example. The aforementioned Skyrim is also a good example, as well as anything that can be bumped down to Direct X9 settings.

I can run the games you're talking about at 60 FPS/1080p as they're fairly easy to crunch on my laptop, my Vaio has a dedicated GPU. You say your integrated graphics card can run such games 'fine' and I'm curious what that means. Do you mean like a console?

Pretty much. I mean no offense but if console level isn't at least 'fine' (fine being decent) then saying that sucks is just elitist. I'm sure its great to be able to run it 1080p and on highest settings with high res textures but at the end of the day i just want to play the damn game and thats it
