#1Demon_Hunter94Posted 8/17/2013 4:13:28 PM
My current hdd is starting to show signs of failing and is also nearly filled up so I'm looking to upgrade to a 1tb. Any specific suggestions?

SSD's.

That aside, WD Caviar Black and Seagate Barracuda.

Price/Performance wise, probably Western Digital Caviar Blue. 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB for about $65-$70.

I blind bought a WD Green HDD for $80. It was normally $100 or so. Seems to be doing the job fine.

The Barracuda should have a slight edge on the Caviar Blue. Caviar Blacks are generally best overall but you pay for them. Wouldn't touch a Green drive unless I really valued that power consumption and lower noise.

If you are in the market for one of these drives, your decision in a desktop should probably be between these two:

I prefer the Seagate one but you can get whichever. They are both around $10 less than newegg prices if you shop around.

Does it really? That's interesting. I never knew that. Good to know. Either way, I usually always recommend whichever of the two I can find cheaper.

Varies by generation. Couple generations back you would've wanted to avoid the Barracudas altogether because of that nasty firmware issue. They've been pretty good lately though, ever since they started the 1TB per platter technology.

I got a 2 TB Seagate Barracuda for $80 a month or so ago, which is only like $5-10 more then a 1 TB HDD. I figured that I might as well, since it's a much, much better deal.

That's the price I paid for my Spinpoint F3 1TB... 3 years ago.
