Google Engineer: DRM has nothing to do with piracy

Steam DRM is optional. If it's on a game the publisher/developer chose to put it there. There are games on the Steam platform that have no DRM.

Steam itself is a form of DRM (albeit an easily bypassed form).

No it's not, it's a store. If I can play a game I purchased from Steam, not through Steam, and without Steam installed, how exactly is it DRM?

Steamworks is DRM. Steam=/=Steamworks.

lets just ignore all the good things Steam has done for us, it's DRM and anything called DRM is automatically horrible

/facepalm.

You are not Che Guevara. Get off your high horse, take off the tin foil hat and join the rest of us in reality.

You are not the TC, i did not quote you. Therefore you are not who i was talking to.

Also i hardly putting words in your mouth. If i was actually replying to you it would be more accurate to say "stop putting letters in my fingers"

I lol at everyone celebrating these indie bundles. Have fun with your DRM mind control from Steam and Origin.

If I'm being mind controlled by Gaben, then good. :D

This is not really news...If the media had their way they'd force you to buy a new copy every time you turned around (Sorry, this copy only plays when you're facing east, you need to buy a new copy for when you're facing south, west and north). Of course, even without DRM, the internet is playing a big part in how much control the media has (and I'm not talking about Piracy, I'm talking about self-publishing).

Also, while steamworks is DRM, it's not as tightly clenched a fist as the other DRMs trying to force you to only be able to install it x number of times, or forcing you to buy a game twice if you happen to have a PC and Mac. Most of the reason why steam is loved is because they give you a lot more freedom to enjoy your games on YOUR terms. Really the only thing that would make it better is if they allowed you to share a game with a friend (and game sharing was found in the code so that may eventually happen).
