Fighting games with long combo systems aren't fighting games

They're rhythm games. I really wanted to like Skullgirls but it appears to be more MvC nonsense, where a single hit confirm transforms the game into a rhythm game for the next 30-45 seconds wherein the poor bastard who got hit can do nothing but watch. It gets to the point where one player ends up spending more time watching their opponent than playing the actual game. How do people enjoy this nonsense?

It's true, it's more like a rhythm game with the really long combos. I'm surprised fighting games haven't taken advantage of this for montage training purposes by combining both concepts into one.

Think about it - You're "playing" the Eye of the Tiger rhythm minigame and it's teaching you the most important combos in the game at the same time!

I feel your pain, but not getting caught in a combo is the whole point.
I'm more partial to the main Street fighter series where combos are shorter and mixups are the main danger.

This is why KoF has always been my favorite. It's just a better Street Fighter in pretty much every way.

While it's much more difficult to master, the three person teams makes it easier to pick up and play as you have some leeway.

I hate long combos and for those reasons, I find the whole idea of sitting by while your opponent puts you in an absurdly long combo to be boring, but I love me some Skullgirls. I don't use long combo's, but I'm fast and use mindgames, don't get hit and just apply pressure.

I love fighting games, so I might have more of a tolerance for the breaking in period, as when I entered the beta back when it started, infinite combo's were still in (now they're not) and I was so mad and annoyed, but stuck with it.
