Battlefield 3 download size question. Does this make sense?

#1RetrowirePosted 8/19/2013 5:56:11 PM
So I'm searching for the system requirements for this game and I found this webpage: http://bf3blog.com/battlefield-3-system-requirements/

I was wondering, why is the digitally distributed version 5 whole GB's less than the disc based version? Where did 5 whole gig's go?

Who knows. But it's irrelevant anyway, seeing as before DLC you'll actually download about 20-22GB. Or closer to 35GB if you have all 4 DLC packs.

The disc version includes the Back To Karkand DLC, while the digital download (probably) doesn't.

So is the initial download a 1.0 version, then you update the game and all of a sudden you're at 22gbs without DLC? I thought that when you digitally downloaded something, you downloaded the latest version.

So I'm going to end up downloading 22GBs of data for this game with NO DLC? I got a data cap so I've gotta ask. I appreciate the help thus far.

Wow, thanks for the heads up. Now, I'm new to Origin, are these updates forced like in Steam?

Steam updates aren't forced
If you want to play online....you obviously have to be up to date (why would you want to play BF3 otherwise?)

The patches for the game have to include all the DLC weapons, so you can play against people who have them. When you buy the DLC, you basically just download the maps separately. And Origin is kinda bad and makes you download version 1.0 of certain games and then update them. Like when I grabbed Mass Effect 2. I downloaded version 1.0 and then had to download every patch and DLC I had for it through my browser and run them in the correct order. Or Crysis 2, which is a pain because the patcher can't find the game in the origin install folder half the time.

Once we perfect building Mechs, I expect there to be a factory in Mexico pumping out a brand call Mechsican. I wanna buy me a Mechsican.
