A friend and I are interested in purchasing our first gaming computers.

Man, you'd think a dedicated card would be a significant improvement over a friggen MacBook with an Intel HD 4000. I can run BF3 at 25 FPS on low with that thing. Ah well. I'll keep my eye open for better deals.

Cheap out now and maybe you'll learn an expensive lesson. It takes a few hours of watching videos to learn how to build a computer and you get an infinitely better product in your price range. Neither of the units you posted are going to run BF3 well, much less BF4.

Well, again, I know the 650 dollar computer can run it on High just fine. So, eh.

I dunno where you learned this, but its not true. BF3 needs a fairly good graphics card to run effectively and the 640 won't cut it. Id suggest a 660 minimum to run it on high.

This is a benchmark of the HD4000

So yes, similar performance to the 640. If you're serious about wanting to play games, you can always sell your macbook and increase your budget. 700 dollars or so is a really sweet spot for price/performance in many cases, assuming you have a monitor and such.

The GT 640 is actually a low-end discrete card.

The RSX is just there to bottleneck the Cell. Otherwise it would transform into an autobot and destroy your living room - premature tyrant

Let him buy the PC. He obviously doesn't care about your opinion. ...

A 640 is a high level multimedia card. gaming cards are 650 and up. Enthusiast level are 670 and up.

You're trying to tell us you expect to run one of the most technically demanding games there is with a GPU designed for watching videos.

Get this and build it. It's a similar price to the other things you were considering and it is far far more powerful. Easily 2x stronger than the next gen PS4 and Xbox One systems being released a few months from now

It's about ~$650 after mail in rebates.

If you want to squeeze off a few dollars just down grade the motherboard a little bit and you can save an extra ~40$ to allow yourself to get a monitor
