Antec 900 cases not coming with firewire anymore?

#1nehukogPosted 8/20/2013 10:32:56 AM
I have an Antec 900 case from about 3 years ago and it came with a firewire port on the top right by the USB ports.

Getting ready to make a new PC, and was looking at cases, and figured I might as well go with the 900 case again since it is cheap (only $99), and fairly stylish. But on newegg I was looking at the pic, and it looks like the firewire port is blocked off! You can see the outline of it, but there is a plastic piece blocking it!

normally I would not care about firewire, but I have an older camcorder that recorded on mini DV tapes and plugged into a PC via firewire, and those tapes have all my friends and I's old movies we made when we were kids. But cool, looks like I'll be going with that Corsiar case!

And you haven't converted them to a digital file yet???

Anyway, you can get any case and just add FireWire ports via an expansion card or front panel expansion.

really? sweet, guess I'll go back to the antec 900 cause that corsair case was getting a lot of negative feedback when it came to installing the PSU

I got 4 firewire PCI cards for like 7 bucks on ebay. It's no big deal.

Expansion Card - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812186009 (also available as a PCI expansion card)

3.5" Front Panel - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811996047

5.25" Front Panel - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811996043

Note, though, that if you go the front panel route, you will need a 1394 header on your motherboard to plug into, which isn't always present on motherboards these days.

Edit: Also, of course, these are just examples. There are other options for similar products available.
