Who else has satellite internet?

#1RetrowirePosted 8/20/2013 1:01:22 PM
I've got a question for anyone that uses satellite based internet.

I use Exede. It's a great satellite based ISP, but the only problem I have with it is my download speeds on Origin are less that satisfactory. When I download on Steam, I get the speed that is expected with my download/upload rate.

When I download on Origin I only get 116kb per second on average.

Is there anyone else with a satellite based ISP that experiences this? I'm wondering if there's a tweak or a solution to this. Also, does anyone with a landline experience this?

And lastly, getting landline internet is impossible where I live. So, no need to suggest that.

From what I heard about satellite, 116 kb/s is actually pretty high.

I remember going from Dial Up to DSL.

Downloading at 8KBps to 130KBps I felt like I was in heaven.

Satellite can actually be quite fast.

The real issue with it is latency. And the pathetic 15GB per month that most seem to offer.

What plan are you signed up for with the ISP? Are you not getting the speeds you are supposed to get?

Well I'm signed up for the 15 Gb per month, the speed is supposed to be 7 Megabits per second.

A Megabyte (MB) is 8 megabits combined.

So we should be looking at about a Megabyte per second in download speed. Yet, I'm actually getting less than one Megabit per second on Origin. Battlefield 3 will take me approximately 10 days at 5 hours a day to download completely. (5 hours a day because my data is not clocked by the ISP from 12am to 5am free data yaay. :/)

Steam will regularly give me a ridiculous download rate of 2 Megabytes per second. This is amazing for my ISP, but there we are. D:

Why is Origin the only client that does this? My browser downloads fine, steam downloads fine, I stream HD movies fine, the problem lies only with Origin. D:

By the by, after you finish your initial download there's patches for BF3. The patches are larger than your monthly cap.

Once we perfect building Mechs, I expect there to be a factory in Mexico pumping out a brand call Mechsican. I wanna buy me a Mechsican.

We used to have a few hours very early in the morning that didn't count toward the cap.

Why is it that he can hit a 3rd baseman on a frozen rope from 300 feet away, but he can't hit a 12 foot tall catcher from 60 feet 6 inches away?
