Jagged edges with AA turned to max?

#1XxTwisted26xXPosted 8/20/2013 6:01:24 PM
Hey guys, so ever since switching to my Radeon HD 7970 I noticed games seem really... jagged. It will happen to items in the distance, like window frames, crates, anything really whenever I move. yet when I stand still they aren't jagged. The games this is happening in I've seen are:

Crysis 2
Crysis 3
Dishonored
Warhammer Dawn of War Retribution
Medal of Honor

I thought maybe it was the driver, so I didn a clean install and nothing changed :/.

My monitor is a Samsung T240HD with 75 refresh rate.

Don't Crysis 2 and Dishonored only accept Post-Process AA anyway?

After a quick google, I think Crysis 3 is the only game you listed that offers anything other then Post-Process AA. This would explain the poor AA quality in those other titles.

Well, you could say it's normal because some games engines don't support "proper" AA, such as MSAA, and so have to do with the likes of FXAA, which effectively blurs the image slightly, to soften edges.

Try some other games which support MSAA.

L4D
Batman: Arkham City
Battlefield 3
DiRT series....

Also, double check your in-game resolution setting.

Jagges edges were caused b/c the whole pixie being used for one color if I remember. AA is a visual trick on your eyes to notice the jagged edges less. And, different methods use different techniques that are less intensive.

it's probably what the #5 said.

Yeah Left 4 Dead and BF3 look perfect on max settings. I just thought the more recent games would have no jaggies like Crysis 3 :/ (on a mix of ultra and high settings).

Download RadeonPro and force SMAA in all those games you listed. Your welcome.
