Right now I have a 6870 on a 16x slot. I have an available 4x slot as well, and from what I've read, running 16x/4x only results in a 5% loss of performance. My question is, should I keep this 6870 and get another one to run in Crossfire or just get a new card sometime later? I noticed that most places do not even sell 6870s anymore...any reason for this? I got my card (Sapphire) about 2 years ago. I'm not in a rush to do this, so I don't mind waiting for a good card to come out. My budget would be $175 at most. --- http://i.imgur.com/2Q46wvY.png Currently watching: X-Files, Shameless, Futurama

Unless you're seeing performance issues, I would wait one more gen of video cards. --- *under construction*

Just buy a better single GPU if all you are doing is pumping out to one 1080p monitor. The new AMD cards are supposed to launch in the next couple months and one of the high end ones will probably give similar performance to two 6870's but without all the hassle of CF.
I'm a big believer of just buying a better single GPU instead of CF/SLI unless you are multi-monitor gaming.
Reason you can't find any new 6870's is because they were discontinued quite a while back. You are probably stuck with buying used which is always a crap shoot and no warranty if it breaks. --- 3570k @ 1.260v - 4.6Ghz, GTX 580 @ 980/2106, ASUS Sabertooth z77, 8GB G.Skill Sniper 1600MHZ, Intel 335 SSD (boot).
Yeah I'll be gaming on only one monitor. I'm not getting performance issues, this 6870 is holding up pretty well. Just want to be prepared for the "next-gen" games coming out like The Division. I'll probably upgrade to a good single card sometime in the future. Thanks for the advice! --- http://i.imgur.com/2Q46wvY.png Currently watching: X-Files, Shameless, Futurama

I would wait for FM2+ or go Haswell
AMD is getting PCI-e 3.0 soon
I already had a 6850 when I bought another over year ago, so the 990FX still made sense at the time
performance is good I just don't know how much that 4x will really limit potential, but if it goes 8/8 that's not too bad
you could get 990fx its only $130 but IDK if that would be the right choice, a HD 7950 would be that much if you sell your GPU
you want the cards in sync or you could run into balancing issues --- http://i.imgur.com/hOjV6w3.jpg

The 6870 is still a meaty card and I would keep it for now. Ideally, a 7950 would be the one to get right now if you manage to sell the 6870.
Or for some odd reason a 6970 could work if you want to scratch right above the performance of a 7850, but probably not worth it. --- "TSA lady opened my bag and asked me about my Magic: The Gathering booster packs. I explained that they're not weapons since I have no land." -Day
