Which is better, dual channel or single?

Basically what I mean is, is it better/faster to have 2 4GB sticks of RAM, or one 8GB stick?

It's faster, but you're not likely to notice. Go with whatever

I'm pretty sure that the latency on larger sticks is higher than smaller, and dual channel is better than single channel, but the differences are pretty minor overall... I mean, you're not going to think "Dayum.. this 8GB stick is slowing my computer down!".

Dual channel is faster, but from everything I've ever heard or read, it's not a hugely noticeable difference. If it were me I'd go with the 8GB to leave room for an easy 8GB upgrade later on. That way you can get the dual-channel benefits in your *more* final configuration.

Except most boards have 4 slots for RAM.

Depends on what form factor motherboard TC has. Boards with just 2 slots are common if you go mATX or mITX.

yes you should use dual, triple, quad, whatever your chipset supports

soon that won't matter anyway when DDR4 comes ashore, but those latencies still suck and will continue to suck because they are 8GB+ chips

divide the latency (7, 8, 9, 10, 11, etc) by the speed (1333, 1600, 1866, etc)

the lower the number the better

the fastest 4GB chips still beat the 8GB chips by a bit, I'd get 2x4 for starters and if you use sli or crossfire try for 4x4, because that VRAM contributes to virtual memory as well

Right, but then even further down the road he can upgrade to 32 GB without having to replace all his 4 GB sticks. My policy is always to max out each slot I occupy.
