Whatever happened to Halo coming to steam?

#1NotQuiteAFreakPosted 8/21/2013 11:14:45 AM
I remember a few months back about some code being found or something... Sort of just fizzle out or something?

Some people think it might happen soon, since GFWL is dying.

Once we perfect building Mechs, I expect there to be a factory in Mexico pumping out a brand call Mechsican. I wanna buy me a Mechsican.

even if it was just halo 1, that would be pretty cool. it might like revitalize the halo: custom edition community or something.

i loved that game. messing around on gigantic maps like coldsnap was a blast

it would be really cool if they could port some of the later games (like maybe halo 4) and allow custom maps on those--real custom maps, and not just like forge maps

We can only assume soon. The King of Fighters XIII was also one of the games found along with Halo 3 and that has finally just come out.

A simultaneously release is definitely out of the question. A delayed release shouldn't be nearly so problematic; if the Xbox base is playing 4 and the 5 is going to be one of the Xbone's biggest movers, what's the harm in releasing the first trilogy on Steam? The Xbox version of the next game would still sell gangbusters being the first release and has the usual PC vs Console barriers in it's favor. It might take a little thunder out of Microsoft's failed attempt at competing with Playstation Plus on the Xbox 360, but then it's a failed attempt and the service won't drum up serious Halo sales anyway- releasing the games on PC would probably be more significant.

The big question to me is who would do the porting of later games, and who currently owns the development materials of Gearbox's ports of the first 2?
