Video Capture Card (HDMI)

#1KADFCPosted 8/21/2013 2:13:44 PM
I want to capture my PS3 via HDMI. My desktop is pretty damn old, but it does have a capture card running (it's composite and s-video). I want to upgrade to HDMI. What I'm having trouble with is figuring out what capture cards out there are compatible with my desktop.

I tried using this, but I'm still lost:
http://www.videohelp.com/capturecards

What kind of specs should I be looking for in terms of my computer with each capture card's requirements (comparing)? This website doesn't do much and I'm having no luck figuring out the conditions elsewhere.

You'll need to use component for ps3 because of the hdcp.

The most popular would probably be the HD PVR.

Something like this?:

I've read the reviews, but I am somewhat skeptical. Like... it's too good to be true. So I don't need a powerful pc to run this? Seriously, my computer is like 10 years old running XP. Not even 2 GBs of ram. There are no computer minimum requirements; only windows operating system. The output to the PC is a USB...?

This review, is rather confusing:

So, can I assume that if I'm not planning to burn this onto bluray, or any cds for that matter, (just youtube), that I am safe from this ordeal? I'm just planning to put it on mp4 all the way (compatible with my tablet as well)

You wouldn't believe the amount of people who can't use their PS3 over HDMI!

Is it really that different plugin it into a capture card? I thought it gives off the same signal to all devices.

The hdpvr will internally encode the video so it doesn't use any CPU power. The file is then saved to your PC.

Thanks

I'm pretty much sold on this, except one thing.

Tell me what he says on 4:20 isn't true. PS3 can only be on M2TS and not MP4? Tell me this isn't true because he doesn't have a PS3!
