I'm building a computer and for the OS I'm looking at spending a hundred bucks on Windows 7 (64bit iirc) and I can't help feeling like this isn't the best choice.

I just want something with widespread compatibility with software and has a simple UI/folder & files navigation. Windows 7 made sense for this, since I've never had problems with ether of these things when I've used it in the past, but there's probably an OS that does the same stuff with equal or superior efficiency and is cheaper (which is good because I really don't want to drop a Benjamin on an OS).

I've found Windows 8 for as cheap as $88, but I don't want Windows 8 :(

alternate solution, spend 3 minutes getting classic shell or start 8(your choice) and installing it and save some money.

Or go with windows 7, literally no difference after start8/cs is installed.

I just got 7 for $80, cheaper than I could have gotten 8 for. I don't like 8.
