If all I do is game and check email on my PC do I need any virus software?

Just using the free MSE with Windows 8.

I just hate every time I play a Steam game MSE pops up and asks me to allow it as a firewall rule, it is annoying.

The email is the dangerous part, because you never know when someone sending you a message is infected.

You could disable the firewall section of the antivirus if is so annoying.

Any email can be infected with a virus, not just spam.

If the MSE that's included with Win 8 is the same as the one that you have to download for Win 7 and older, then it should be fine. Just saying this because generally any utilities and programs that are bundled with Windows are generally half-assed in every way compared to stand-alone versions
