Anyone here good at budget builds?

Trying to make a ~$400 budget build for someone. It's turning out to be a headache for me to get the best parts possible. Are APUs worth it? Would a similarly priced CPU+GPU combo be better? I hear that an APU requires high-performance RAM, so that would add to the cost.

All this machine needs to be capable of is web browsing/video playback at 1080p really.

Already have Windows.

If someone could point me in the right direction here it would be great.

This is what I came up with so far: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/

Thanks!

That link brings me to my build.

Anyways, I got this:

No videocard, but it can play 1080p videos.

My bad, forgot to post the perma-link:: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/1uKit

Right now I'm just having a hard time picking a CPU, it's almost impossible to find a place that sells Athlon IIs for a decent price anymore. I may just go Phenom II.

See if you can fit in a A10 6800k crossfire with HD7750 on a Gigabyte A75 motherboard. It can run new games on max settings 720p. And yes the ram speed will make a difference here. Just get a 1600-1866 MHz then overclock it?

edit/ nevermind just noticed you are not playing games. So you can take out the HD7750. Could buy later or something stronger later down the line.

Does the A10 6800k crossfire with a 7750?

I thought APUs were still limited to crossfiring with a 6670?

People have got it working with the 7750. Official support only goes to 6670.

Honestly you should go for a Phenom CPU instead of Athlon.

Honestly, I would just tell them to go buy a laptop.
