List Of Bad Console To PC Ports

#1SpaceDesperadoPosted 8/21/2013 5:53:00 PM
Let's hear your personal stories of almost unplayable pc ports. Most came from this gen and since retail console games aren't permanently available like pc games, I would like to know which games are must avoids for pc so i don't get screwed at a later date when i decide to go deep into my backlog and can only obtain the pc version at a reasonable price or with ease.

If some of these games got fixed with un/official patches like Resident Evil 4, please mention it if you can.

Let's get some of the obvious ones out of the way:
GTA IV
Saints Row 2
Mercenaries 2
Resident Evil 4
Splinter-Cell: Double Agent
Dark Souls.

Modern Warfare 2.

They game ran fine, but wtf where are the dedicated servers? Why did they try to stop people from modding, and its when they started charging for DLC on CoD games :(.

Darksiders 2 got fixed along the way. There are actually some decent graphical options now.

Dead Space. The physics are frame based instead of time based leading to tons of problems, plus vsync caps the game at 30 instead of 60, combined with negative mouse acceleration the game is unplayable at 30 fps with m/kb.

If you play with an uncapped frame rate then QTEs become unwinnable, at 600 fps (my rig played it at over 500 so not an impossible number by any stretch) you have to press E 20 times as fast as you're supposed to have to to break free when you get grabbed.

If you play with just a frame limit then you get stuck in the room where you get your first weapon because an enemy won't spawn due to a physics glitch if vsync isn't enabled and you can't progress if that enemy doesn't spawn.

Even once you finally get the game running at acceptable frame rates with an external vsync the mouse still feels like ass due to the negative acceleration and you can't adjust the sensitivity of the controller if you decide to go with that.

Dead space was still fun though, I just completed it. I actually yelled out at one point it scared me so much.

The moral of the story is
3rd person shooters like Dead Space are best played with a controller.

Saints Row 2's mostly fixed with the Gentlemen of the Row mod. Still buggy, sure, but people tend to forget the console versions were too.

It's not the graphic options... it's the poor optimization.
