What does pointer precision in my mouse settings do and why do people say turn

it off? It feels really damn weird without it on and I don't know how it could help my gaming improve.

Basically its bad for consistency, which is vital when you play competitive games.

You're used to it. I used it for years and I was used to it as well... I finally decided to turn it off and for a while my aim actually got worse in FPS games...then I adjusted to the new setting and everything was OK again. The one place where it probably hurts you the most is sniping in FPS games. Everywhere else you can adjust to it and do OK with it.

If you're playing FPS competitively you will want to turn it off and get used to it not being there anymore. If you're not playing it seriously then it's not a huge deal either way (but sniping is probably not for you).

it's positive accel

it basically exaggerates your movements if you do it fast

but that also means if you move 5cm slowly and do an action, the result will be different if you move 5cm fast

dpi is only relevant if you use high sens, but if you're serious you're probably using low sens anyway

sensor quality is far more important

tl;dr
if you care about maximizing potential turn it off and get used to the 1:1 reflection of your hand movements
