When will PC get hUMA like abilities like ps4?

The APU has a lot to do with HSA but less to do with what HSA really is

HSA is just a plan to get code rewritten at the end of the day

Continual use of the X86 is going to slow down industrial and scientific research

In one sense, the APU has always been HUMA under one hood, but as soon as you introduce a dedicated graphics card that idea is thrown out the window

PS4 though, it only has one set of memory chips with two different memory interface (from the cpu and the gpu) using that same pool. It depends whether they allocate resources or if either interface has access to the whole pool at any time. The latter is the question but alludes to what HUMA is.

Slowly HSA will go from, "why is my GPU faster than my CPU?", to "getting resources from the CPU to the GPU quicker and quicker", to all out abandoning the CPU in favor of the GPU architecture, because we already know x86 is dead.

knightimex,

Ignore all the elitist haters that just want to whip out their e-peen and cause animosity.

Nothing really wrong with your system or price point if you didnt build it yourself.

They are all hard headed, I just take great joy in ruffling their feathers.

It seems like the TC would rather defend his PC than his topic.

He still hasn't responded to:

Also, is the PS4 even getting hUMA?

The thread "topic" actually ended there.

But unnecessary shots have since then been fired....

Why would we need unified memory?

In the PC world we call that an integrated graphics chip with shared memory.

Graphics cards already have access to dedicated high speed memory designed for graphics processing.
The CPU already has access to fast memory designed to crunch numbers.

Essentially, it's already perfect.
The communication between the two isn't really that big of a problem either.

Yet consoles exists that can do nearly the same for a fraction the cost.
That $400 ps4 already destroys my $1,200 pc.

I have a GTX 560, i7 3.4ghz, 12gb.

My pc isn't on the same level of PS4.

And bragging about how much more powerful a pc actually is, is rather dumb especially if you paid 3x-4x more.

Nobody should be dumb enough to pay 1200 for that PC in the first place

Now or then?
Then the i7 iirc was I think $350, the 560 was $320, that's $680 not including the mobo, psu, ram, HDD, sound card, casing, OS, or taxes.

and LOL if you think you can humiliate me.
=P

It wasn't $200 when it was brand new. Smart guy.
That's like saying "LMAO at paying price x for a product that recently had several price drops."

I bet you looked at 2013 prices didn't you?

LMFAO!
