Yeah, you should do ok with a 670 and 1440. You will have to turn some things down, but I know I would never want to go back to 1080 after experiencing 1440/1600.

depends what you play

If Crysis 3, Metro LL, or Skyrim /w mods are integral to you, going to need another for 1080p

Most games will do fine with 1440p on one 670

BF3 would run but maybe turn off AA or lower to high settings

I'd stick with 1600x900 for now. I doubt going to 1080p will be that big a difference.

As someone who made that jump, it actually is a big difference. It's quite nice too.

Tbh I don't play a whole lot these days, but I was huge into modded Skyrim when I first got set up. Responding to this in particular saying Skyrim with mods will need more for 1080p... Really? Cause I get 40-60 FPS and have about 200 mods, most graphical, actually following SkyrimTuner's ENB guide. I got the 4gb Asus edition so perhaps all the textures had the help of that. I WAS ironing out CTDs at times though...

I was worried about it at 1440, but not 1080. Hmm....

Well, thanks for all the replies guys. I think I may have to check out going above 1080p. I suppose if I intend to play anything coming out next gen it'll mean an upgrade much sooner than later, but what the hell.

Looking at them off brand LG manufactured panels that's a boat load cheaper tbh. Anyone have experience with those?

well 900p is 1.44M pixels

1080p is 2.073M pixels

That is a 44% increase in pixels, relatively

I'm not sure how much VRAM would be lost but I can test it for you, BRB

OK VRAM wasn't the culprit it only went up ~100MB

(1300 vs 1400 in whiterun)

But framerate dropped from a solid 60 to 30-60

this is with high res textures and ultra settings

enabling crossfire now, cya!

1080p isn't a big enough upgrade in my opinion. I'd say stick with what you have or go 1440p. Even if you can't play all of your games at that resolution, you can still play many of them with a 670. And in the future you could get a second 670 or a better card to replace it. 1440p is also great for other tasks besides gaming.

1440p almost eliminates the need for AA, so while your card is pushing more pixels, you gain some performance back by turning AA down to 2X or off.

Depends what games and what settings you play on. I have a 1440p display and an amd 6850. For the games I play the gpu holds up decently. My reasoning was I couldn't pass up an amazing deal on the monitor and I can upgrade my system later, but I'll always have a fantastic display.

Like most things: it depends.
