Is there a mod for DA:O that makes the skill/leveling system deeper?

You mean like Baldurs Gate where all you do is click the button "level up" and get a random amount of hp?

you forgot:

-pick spells
-assign weapon proficiencies
-assign skills points
-receive added attack rate
-receive THAC0 reduction
-special abilities improve (backstab multiplier, Turn Undead, etc)

and i made that list with almost no thought, it doesn't even cover prestige classes

-DA:O has 3 races (human, dwarf, elf) and 3 base classes with 18 specialization "dip-in" classes
-BG2 has 7 races and 11 base classes with 21 prestige classes, 9 specialist mage classes and the ability to double and triple multi-class and dual-class in most of them, which you can't do in DA:O.

anyway, to answer TC's question. you can install crap like RAVAge and Smarter AI to make the game feel more tactical, but i haven't checked for mods that deepen talent selection or allow you to choose talents from multiple class pools on the one char, they prob exist but they'd have to rebalance the game or it would be very OP i would surmise
