Currently my CPU idles at 45 and gets up to 70 under load. I can still take the Evo back to Fry's, which currently has an Antec Kuhler H20 620 for $35 after rebate or a Cooler Master V6 GT for $50, which is the most I want to spend. What should I do? --- Rumble Roses. Someone enters the room. Them: O_O Me: What?! I always play games without my pants on!- Inmate 922335
45 at idle is unusually high, probably nothing to do with the EVO. Do you have adequate case cooling? If so did you install the EVO properly? --- FX-6300 @ 4.3ghz | GTX 760 | 970 extreme3 | 8GB DDR3 1600 SteamID: gsf4lyfe
You probably applied too much/too little paste. Either that or you ambient temps are really high and switching out for one of those heatsinks wouldn't do much. --- http://i.imgur.com/ULj4q.jpg Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended.
You shouldn't be getting over 30C at idle with that cooler. Either you installed it improperly (fan possibly facing the wrong way) or you have poor ventilation in your case. --- I5 3570k @ 4.5ghz, 12 gigs DDR3 memory, Asrock Z77 Extreme 4, 2x EVGA GTX 670 4gb SC sli, Seasonic 750w PSU, ASUS 24" monitor, 2x 23" Acer Monitors
Tbh I idle at 40 with a i7 930 2.8 overclocked to 4, but my ambient temps are ridiculous (hottest apartment ever in your life), and that's with the big phanteks. Prior to installing it, and without any oc, I would idle at 50-60 and hit tj max on Skyrim no problem. Now I hit 60 max in games, and 70-80 prime 95. It's great. --- Eagerly awaiting FFXIV's inevitable failure. Even a fantastic game cannot withstand initial bad press & the long-dead MMO format. Sad but true.
