Hypothetical Question in the topic. Would it depend on the screen size?

Depends on the screen size, and how far you are from the screen

It's not about resolution so much as pixel density and viewing distance. if you're sitting five feet away from a 1920x1080 22" monitor, you won't benefit much from AA. If you're sitting 2 feet away it's much more necessary. If you're sitting 5 feet away from a 42" 1920x1080 screen it would also be useful. Anti-Aliasing has a visual effect similar to high density (e.g. "retina") displays though it's accomplished differently.

A jagged telephone poll looks jagged

1920 x 1080 doesn't change that.

AA is necessary at most resolutions

Trick question. AA is never a necessity.

AA is a visual gimmick, the jaggies are still there. It's just blended out a bit. More dots, smaller jaggies, less noticeable.
