Depends on your eyesight, the pixel density of the screen and the viewing distance.

depends more on the engine, size of the screen, and relative distance more than the resolution

I reckon 150 PPI or so would render AA pretty meaningless, unless the game is inherently jagged.

When you have an extremely high pixel density I guess. So it wouldn't necessarily be just resolution, but screen size as well.

If the game is pretty demanding I won't f*** with AA settings. I could use fxaa but it looks worse than w/o aa. If I could use 2x msaa at all times with no sacrifice to performance I'd be pretty happy.
